Around 1pm on Saturday August 29th, I saw a few people posting on facebook about a monthly event down at US60 Dragway. I haven't been to this venue, so we hopped on the road and headed down to Hardinsburg, Kentucky, to watch some Outlaw racing.
Bear in mind, we had a new addition with us at the track, so our time there was limited. (shameless puppy plug below)
Now I'm originally from the Chicago suburbs, so the onslaught of Southern Hospitality is always a nice change of pace. US60 was no exception to this mentality. The people at the front entrance were extremely kind, and even offered us free refreshments being our first time through the gates. The track is an 1/8th mile setup, with a cool down distance of what appeared to be 47 feet. Needless to say, watching 1000hp+ vehicles make hits here is a lot like Nascar. Everyone expects a wreck. Fortunately, we saw no such thing while we were watching some pre-qualifying test passes. However, a gentleman sitting next to us in the crowd had a bright story for us...
*cue thick southern accent in your minds*
"Well, we were just sittin up by the pop machine waitin on Judy's sno-cones, when we seen this fellar let go of the trans brake and give er' hell. I mean this fella was shootin for the got-dang stars! He come down about 300 foot out, laid right into it. Summabitch musta thought we was on a half mile event cause he aint stop until he went through that patch a trees about 200 yards out yonder!" I. Love. Southerners. We weren't able to stay through the entire race, but I was able to snap some shots of the track and pits. If you know any of the people in these pics, follow along on our instagram and tag them! @ClapdOut is the handle.
